Phases Of A Migraine Attack

A Lincoln migraine attack like any other can be divided into four phases:

A ‘premonitory’ phase occurs in up to half of people with migraine. You may feel irritable, depressed, tired, have food cravings, or ‘just know’ that a migraine is going to occur. You may have these feelings for hours or even days before the onset of the headache.

The aura phase (if it occurs).

The headache phase.

The resolution phase when the headache gradually fades. During this time you may feel tired, irritable, depressed, and may have difficulty concentrating.

Find out how I managed to get rid of migraines for good.

Less common types of migraine

There are various other types of migraine which are uncommon, and some more types which are rare. These include:

Menstrual migraine. The symptoms of each attack are the same as for common migraine or migraine with aura. However, the migraine attacks are associated with periods. There are two types of patterns. Pure menstrual migraine is when migraine occurs only around periods, and not at other times. This occurs in about 1 in 7 women who have migraine. Menstrual-associated migraine is when migraines occur around periods, and also at other times of the month too. About 6 in 10 women who have migraine have this type of pattern. Treatment of each migraine attack is the same as for any other type of migraine. However, there are treatments that may prevent menstrual migraines from occurring. See separate leaflet called ‘Migraine Triggered by Periods’ for more detail.

Abdominal migraine. This mainly occurs in children. Instead of headaches, the child has attacks of abdominal (tummy) pain which last several hours. Typically, during each attack there is no headache, or only a mild headache. There may be associated nausea (feeling sick), vomiting or aura symptoms. Commonly, children who have abdominal migraine switch to develop common migraine in their teenage years.

Ocular migraine. This is sometimes called retinal migraine, ophthalmic migraine or eye migraine. It causes temporary loss of all or part of the vision in one eye. This may be with or without a headache. Each attack usually occurs in the same eye. There are no abnormalities in the eye itself and vision returns to normal.

Hemiplegic migraine. This is rare. In addition to a severe headache, symptoms include weakness (like a temporary paralysis) of o 1000 ne side of the body. This may last up to several hours, or even days, before resolving. Therefore, it is sometimes confused with a stroke. You may also have other temporary symptoms of vertigo (severe dizziness), double vision, visual problems, hearing problems and difficulty speaking or swallowing.

Basilar-type migraine. This is rare. The basilar artery is in the back of your head. It used to be thought that this type of migraine originated due to a problem with the basilar artery. It is now thought that this is not the case, but the exact cause is not known. Symptoms typically include headache at the back of the head (rather than one sided as in common migraine). They also tend to include strange aura symptoms such as temporary blindness, double vision, vertigo, ringing in the ears, jerky eye movements, trouble hearing, slurred speech, dizziness. Unlike hemiplegic migraine, basilar-type migraine does not cause weakness. There is an increased risk of having a stroke with this type of migraine.

Do I need any tests?

Usually not. There is no test to confirm migraine. A doctor can be confident that you have migraine if you have the typical symptoms. However, some people with migraine have non-typical headaches. Sometimes tests are done to rule out other causes of headaches. Remember, if you have migraine, you do not have symptoms between attacks. A headache that does not go, or other symptoms that do not go, are not due to migraine.

Tension headaches are sometimes confused with migraine. These are the common headaches that most people have from time too time. Note: if you have migraine, you can also have tension headaches at different times to migraine attacks.

The fear of brain tumor headaches is what drives many patients to their primary care doctor or to a headache clinic. Most times they present to the office afraid of their symptoms and convinced they may have a brain tumor. Believe it or not, clinicians do take this seriously but it is dependent on the patient’s symptoms and the results of the physical exam.

Learn how I managed to get rid of migraines for good.

When a headache does occur from a brain tumor it is termed a secondary headache because some other medical problem is causing the pain. This is also known as an organic headache. Brain tumors are rare, even in people with recurring headache. When they do occur about 50% of the patients present with headache, and many will also have seizures and other neurological problems such as memory loss and personality changes.

Brain Tumors vs Other Headaches

Typical brain tumor headaches may have pain all over the head that is throbbing in nature. The headache may be mild in the morning and then progress and worsen during the day. They may also worsen over a period of months. Some people have had migraine type symptoms with tumors. Some types of tumors may obstruct cerebrospinal fluid which results in a headache that is positional..it is relieved when the person lays down.

This is different from other headaches such as tension and migraine which are considered primary headaches (no underlying medical problem). Tension and migraine headaches tend to be throbbing and pulsating headaches and are generally not all over the head.

At times, symptoms and complaints from patients may alert a doctor and these are called "red flags". Although they can happen with migraines and tension headaches they might require further workup. Red flags include headaches that worsen with coughing, sneezing or bending over. Any weakness is a concern as are visual changes, memory and personality changes.

Certain things put people at risk for tumors in the brain. These include:

smoking

previous history of breast, prostate, lung or neck cancer

smoking

smoking (get it?)

Neuroimaging In Brain Tumor Headaches

More often than not, headache is not the complaint that leads to a tumor. Most patients present with other neurological symptoms described above. I should note that the symptoms can also include dizziness, tinnitus and incontinence. When an exam is abnormal and a patient has visual defects or weakness then either a CT or MRI of the brain is needed. Contrast MUST be given as parts of a tumor will appear different on imaging when contrast is present. After imaging, the doctor may have to do a lumbar puncture or spinal tap if the results of the imaging warrant this.

Treatment Of Brain Tumors and the Headache

Treatment of tumors is directly related to the type of tumor. Some need surgery, some need chemotherapy and radiation and sometimes, with benign tumors they are just watched for awhile. This means serial MRI’s every couple of months. The headaches are treated symptomatically and generally respond well to steroids or anti-inflammatories. Many times the brain tumor headaches disappear after surgery.

Does your teenager suffer from migraines? This is a more common occurance than you might think. As a result, your son or daughter likely has an uphill battle to maintain good grades. A recent statistic shows that a 5 percent drop in high school GPA, a 5 percent drop in the likelihood of graduating high school and a 15 percent reduction in the likelihood that he or she will even be able to go to college. There are a number of reasons why this happens. Migraines are the cause of up to 40 percent reduction in excused absences from school, also difficulty paying attention in class as well as failing to complete homework on time or at all. A public policy professor at American University in Washington, D.C., by the name of Joseph Sabia, and University of Colorado at Denver economics professor, Daniel Rees have looked at data from the National Longitudinal Study of Adolescent Health. Both of these professors said that teens who had nonmigraine headaches didn’t suffer the same drops in academic performance as the ones who had migraines. This happened to be the first study of its kind to examine the effect of migraine headaches on adolescents and their ability to achievement academic goals. Sabia and Rees conducted the study by analyzing migraine experiences and high school grades of 214 siblings from 105 families. They obtained information on high school completion and college attendance from 280 siblings belonging to 137 families, according to the news release.

Useful Information About Hemiplegic Migraine

Not all of us know, but there are different types of migraine, and one is the hemiplegic migraine. Hemiplegic is derived from the condition termed as ‘hemiplegia’ wherein the patient encounters a temporary paralysis of one body part. The symptoms start from 10 minutes to an hour before the actual headache.

Described as a very rare kind of migraine, hemiplegic is also considered as one of the more serious form of migraine. After multiple attacks, it can severely weaken the patients so utmost observation is needed. Generally the symptoms of hemiplegic migraine are as follows:

Can be brought by a slight head injury

Paralysis of one body part followed by needles or pins sensation and numbness.

Headaches which usually disappear on the onset of paralysis.

Weakness of one side of the body, specifically leg, face or arm. Weakness is usually followed by headaches. Weakness can last for several hours or days.

Difficulty in speaking

Understanding hemiplegic migraines require an initial understanding of the migraines episodic attacks. There are two forms of hemiplegic migraines, the familial or FHM and sporadic or SHM.

1.Familial Hemiplegic Migraine or FHM can be identified among chromosome 19 of genes from 50% to 60% of most cases. Migraine attacks can last from 4 to 72 hours. Familial migraines are inherent and can also be observed among first degree relatives specifically the parents, aunts or uncles.

Sequence analysis is often used to identify the triggers of Familial Hemiplegic Migraine. Roughly 50% of families suffering with FHM have an identical mutation and genes.

A study in Denmark revealed that out of 44 families, there 147 FHM patients. Most of the patients suffer from two of the four aura symptoms which involve sensory, aphasic, motor and visual symptoms. 69% of the population suffers from basilar migraine symptoms (vertigo, nausea, vomiting) during FHM attack and 99% suffers from headaches.

2.Sporadic Hemiplegic Migraine or SHM is not genetically inclined. It is characterized by attacks which can lead to weaknesses which are also called hemiparesis.

Similarly, sporadic and familial hemiplegic migraines begin in childhood and stop on adult years. Differential diagnosis between FHM and SHM are difficult. The approach can be very hard because the symptoms are also the same with certain vascular diseases and other conditions such as epilepsy and stroke.

While there are general symptoms for hemiplegic migraine, SHM and FHM share their own distinct symptoms which may vary among individuals. The known symptoms are as follows:

Hemiplegia

Defective muscular coordination

Fever

Presence of meningitis symptoms but without the illness

Confusions, deep coma or unconsciousness

Vertigo, nausea and vomiting

Weakness due to aura that can last for days or weeks

Stroke

Upon classification of migraines, your next step is to treat them. You have two goals here; first is to treat the paralysis and second to identify what medications are needed for the illness. Medications should be properly endorsed by physicians to avoid complications. It should be noted that certain medications such as ergotamines and triptans are not prescribed for hemiplegic migraine.

Treatment of migraines can be challenging, but there are certain measures that can help you with this, the abortive and preventive treatment.

1.Abortive or Pain Relief. Pain relievers are used to reduce the pain. Drugs such as narcotic analgesic and antiemetics should be taken during the start of migraine symptoms. There are certain abortives such as triptans which have side effects and can lead to stroke. Triptans and ergotamines are being examined up to now and is not being used to treat migraines.

2.Preventive treatments are considered an important factor in contradicting certain medications for hemiplegic migraines. One of the most effective preventive treatment is calcium channel blockers such as verapamil and flunarizine. These medications require a prescription from specialist.

Hemiplegic migraine patients needs to continuously study the symptoms, the disease, the kind and the treatment for this kind of migraine. It should be kept in mind that treatment is a gradual process. Careful review and a full record of the medical history of the family are essential to track down the causes and for the physician’s accurate diagnosis of the illness. Migraines need not be treated with over the counter drugs which only bring short lived relief. It is a usual act of seeking the help and care of a physician, especially a migraine specialist to have a solid treatment of your hemiplegic migraine.

Despite its widespread use for over 100 years, we still don’t fully understand how paracetamol works to relieve pain. However, it is now thought that it works by reducing the production of prostaglandins in the brain and spinal cord.

The body produces prostaglandins in response to injury and certain diseases. One of the effects of prostaglandins is to sensitise nerve endings, causing pain (presumably to prevent us from causing further harm to the area). As paracetamol reduces the production of these nerve sensitising prostaglandins it is thought it may increase our pain threshold, so that although the cause of the pain remains, we can feel it less.

Paracetamol is about as effective as aspirin at relieving mild to moderate pain, but unlike aspirin it has no anti-inflammatory effect.

Codeine is a slightly stronger painkiller known as an opioid. Opioid painkillers work by mimicking the action of naturally occurring pain-reducing chemicals called endorphins. Endorphins are found in the brain and spinal cord and reduce pain by combining with opioid receptors.

Codeine mimicks the action of natural endorphins by combining with the opioid receptors in the brain and spinal cord. This blocks the transmission of pain signals sent by the nerves to the brain. Therefore, even though the cause of the pain may remain, less pain is actually felt.

Migraleve pink tablets contain 8mg of codeine, which in combination with the paracetamol, is effective at relieving the pain of migraine headaches.

Buclizine hydrochloride is a type of medicine called an antihistamine. It is used to treat the sensation of nausea that can occur in a migraine attack and thus prevent vomiting.

Vomiting is controlled by an area of the brain called the vomiting centre. The vomiting centre is responsible for causing feelings of sickness (nausea) and for the vomiting reflex. Buclizine works by blocking histamine receptors in the vomiting centre, which prevents the vomiting centre from receiving nerve messages that would otherwise cause nausea and vomiting.

If taken at the first sign of a migraine, Migraleve pink tablets can prevent the migraine developing fully. Adults over 14 years of age should take two Migraleve pink tablets at the first sign of a migraine. Children aged 10 to 14 years should take one Migraleve pink tablet as soon as it is known that a migraine attack has started or is imminent. If the migraine continues, further treatment should be with Migraleve yellow tablets to help relieve the migraine headache. You should not start taking Migraleve yellow until four hours after your dose of Migraleve pink. Do not exceed the recommended dose. (The maximum dose for adults aged over 14 years is two Migraleve pink and six Migraleve yellow tablets in 24 hours. The maximum dose for children aged 10 to 14 years is one Migraleve pink and three Migraleve yellow tablets in 24 hours.)

It’s the very rare person who has never had a headache. However, all headaches are not created equally. There are various forms and one of the most painful and difficult to handle is the migraine headache.

Migraines are classified as throbbing headaches that are felt on only one side of the head. Most migraine sufferers experience some degree of nausea and even vomiting. They are also sensitive to light and sound and the pain becomes worse with activity.

Some migraineurs experience sensory disturbances (auras) at the beginning of a headache. This might include brightly colored blinking lines, flashes of light, colored dots or black spots. It can also cause a person to see only half of an object. This type of an attack is called a ‘classical migraine’ and the headache usually starts within 10 to 30 minutes of experiencing the aura. This type of headache is experienced by 10 to 15 percent of all migraineurs.

The other 85 to 90 percent will experience a common migraine (or migraine without aura). These people can still have warning signs though, which include a hot sensation in the head, a feeling of heaviness and a tightening sensation throughout the scalp. These warnings can actually appear from a few hours to even a day before the attack.

Learning to read your own body warnings and symptoms can be a very important part of developing an effective treatment program for your headaches. It’s a good idea to keep a little symptom diary so that you can identify any patterns that might emerge. For instance, you might find that the migraine comes on around the same time every month. If that’s the case, and you are a woman, it could be tied in with your monthly cycle.

A migraine can last for quite a long time…anywhere from four to seventy-two hours. It starts with a dull, aching pain but then develops to an overwhelming throbbing pain that fluctuates. As mentioned, most sufferers are sensitive to light and sound and need to be in a darkened room. Moving, bending over or sudden movement, can make the pain worse. Some experience nausea to the extent of vomiting. Other changes in the body include diarrhea, increased urination and a loss of appetite.

While the headache is at its worse, the hands and feet can feel extremely cold. However, just before the migraine the head might have felt hot. All these temperature changes are thought to be due to disturbances taking place in the hypothalamus, which is the body’s thermostat.

Often people get migraines after a period of intense stress has ended, such as on vacation, a weekend or shortly after meeting a deadline. It is not unusual for the migraine sufferer to feel completely drained when the migraine is all over. Some report feeling exhausted for days after; yet others feel a sense of renewal and experience a surge of energy.

If, after reading this, you believe that the headaches you are having are migraines, it is recommended that you visit your health care provider, as regular over-the-counter pain medication will do very little to help alleviate your headache.

Diets to Prevent Migraines For many years, there was not much relief that a sufferer could find from the symptoms of these headaches. More recently, there have been new drugs and nasal sprays developed which have brought relief from this ailment. There has also been research to help people lessen the effects of these awful headaches.

A migraine headache is more than regular headache pain. A migraine headache brings unbearable, throbbing pain along with nausea, possibly vomiting and blurred vision. A migraine headache makes normal, daily activities difficult, and these headaches can last a few hours or a few days.

The research has also shown that certain foods in the diet may trigger the onset of migraine headaches, and there is now information on a migraine diet for those who suffer. Some research has identified the items which cause migraine headaches, and the researchers have provided much information on a migraine diet that those affected should follow. The people who have followed this advice have found some relief in the intensity of the headaches they suffer and the number of headaches that they suffer. Many of these people personally will recommend the migraine diet suggested by the researchers.

Avoid Some Foods to Avoid Migraine Headaches

For many years, people ate normal foods and had no idea that these might contribute to the headaches that they suffered. If they had known, the migraine headache is so painful; surely they would have avoided these foods. Now they know and their lives are better for the information on migraine diet. First of all, there is information that alcoholic beverages might be the trigger that sets off a migraine. Red wine seems to be one of the worst of these beverages for those affected by migraine. Processed meats are also on the list of foods to avoid on a migraine diet. Some fruits also may be the triggers. These fruits include avocadoes, passion fruits, and papayas.

Unfortunately the list of foods to avoid for a migraine diet is fairly long, but surely any person with more than one migraine will want to avoid these foods. These people should avoid chocolate and other products from cocoa. Caffeine is also on the list of foods that should be avoided along with dairy products including sour cream and buttermilk. Hopefully this information will help people avoid the pain and suffering that comes with migraine headaches.

Exactly What Are Migraines?

Natural remedies examined

Many people suffer from migraine headaches but just what are migraine headaches and why do we get them?

In excess of twenty-nine million Americans suffer from migraine headaches and that represents just about 10 percent of the population. Migraine headaches afflict women about 3 times more often than men and they are not restricted to adults with a considerable number of children experiencing them as well. A migraine attack lasts anything from a few hours to three or four days and with longer attacks victims generally experience secondary effects for longer periods. In spite of the fact that migraine headaches are so common close to 50% of all victims do not bother to see a doctor about the condition.

One frequent symptom of a a migraine headache is an acute and throbbing pain on one side of the head which is usually localized close to the temple. This pain is also often accompanied by various other symptoms like nausea and vomiting and sensitivity to noise and light.

The precise causes of migraine headaches are not known and, despite the fact that for a long time it was suspected they were the result of a dilation of the blood vessels, Current research now favors alternative explanations. In addition, though there is no sound consensus of opinion, many researchers consider that the condition is a genetic disorder that affects how certain brain chemicals like serotonin act upon the nerve cells.

The complexity in unraveling the mystery of migraine headaches is amplified by the simple fact that migraines come in two different forms.

The first type is called ‘classical migraine’ and is connected with something which professionals call an ‘aura’. This has nothing to do with spiritual fields surrounding the body but refers to the symptoms sufferers experience just before the arrival of a headache. For these migraine victims it is normal to have visual hallucinations like bright spots and flashing lights or even to experience loss of vision immediately before the arrival of a headache.

When these visual symptoms are absent victims suffer from the second class of headaches.

Attempting to pinpoint precisely what causes migraines is anything but easy although data collected over the years might point to the eventual answer. For example, individuals who do not get enough sleep can be at higher risk, as are individuals who have too much sleep which has been linked to a higher incidence. Migraine attacks are also generally linked to eating certain foods such as cheese and to missing meals.

Many researchers also think that some hormonal factors have a bearing on the start and severity of attacks and one piece of evidence to support this is the far higher incidence of migraine headaches among women than men. Indeed, one particular study reported an incidence of 17% in men against only 6% in men. Furthermore, studies have revealed a link between the contraceptive pill and migraines and it is known that Estrogen, which is a major ingredient in birth control pills, has an effect upon blood vessels.

However the list of trigger factors does not end here and simple everyday activities like walking up a flight of stairs or more intensive physical exertion can trigger an attack, as can stress, extremes of cold and heat and flashing lights and loud noises. It has also been noted that migraine headaches occur more often when there is a combination of these triggers present.

Luckily, there are a number of medical treatments available, though none has been shown to be tremendously effective in all cases, and completing a diary of when attacks occur will often help you to identify lifestyle changes which might help in curing migraines. Where lifestyle changes on their own do not do the trick then there are a number of medicines that your doctor can prescribe to help.

Pain - 7 Ways To Head Off A Migraine Headache

Twenty-Eight million Americans’ experience pain from migraine headaches and a great many have no clue as to what to do about it. That means about one person in every four household’s experiences throbbing head pain. Usually one side of the head, sometimes accompanied by nausea and sensitivity to light and/or sound. Some people may experience an "aura" before the migraine hits, characterized by flashes of light, zigzag lines, blind spots and numbness or tingling in the arm and face.

Migraine pain can last from 4 to 72 hours, knocking a person out of commission. But much can be done to minimize attacks and ease the symptoms.

This article contains advice from Seymour Diamond, M.D. director and founder of the Diamond Headache Clinic in Chicago, who states that pain may be triggered by certain foods, stress, and a drop in barometric pressure or fluctuating hormones. But migraine triggers vary from person to person and what causes a migraine one month may not the next. That’s why Dr. Diamond has patients keep a diary that notes when headaches occurred and what brought them on.

In about one third of pain sufferers, certain kinds of foods set off a migraine. Potential triggers include ripened cheeses such as cheddar, Stilton, Brie, Emmentaler and Camembert; pickled or dried meats; and some vegetables, including broad, Lima, Fava beans and Snow Peas.

Pain Sufferers should also consider avoiding citrus fruits, figs, raisins, avocados, red plums, papayas, and bananas, plus skip all cheeses, chocolate, bread made with sourdough, excess caffeine or red wine an foods containing mono-sodium glutamate.

If you can’t change a situation that’s causing stress, at least "put it in perspective," states Dr. Diamond. To control stress, do deep breathing, learn yoga, or rat chi, or consider biofeedback.

Playing video games can trigger a migraine pain attack, as can spending long hours at the computer. Remember to always wear sunglasses when you are outdoors, and place an antiglare screen on your video monitor.

At the Diamond Headache Clinic, doctors counsel against oversleeping and meal skipping. "If you want to sleep in on a Saturday at least get up and eat something," says Dr. Diamond, "Then go back to bed."

The American Migraine Study II found that only 48% of people whose symptoms met the definition of a migraine had been diagnosed by a doctor.

So, work with your doctor on a therapy plan that’s right for you. Some medications help keep migraine from occurring; others short-circuit the pain. Make sure you go through a process of elimination of all elements affecting your life-style and investigate your biological needs to filter out those things that work and those that don’t when it comes to dealing with Migraine pain.

Headaches are a common cause of suffering. It is one of the most common reasons people seek medical help. Learn more about the cause and remedy of frequent headache in this article.

Headaches are one of the most common reasons people seek medical help. Headaches are a common cause of suffering, but all headaches are not created equal. For example, a migraine is a splitting headache that just seems to set in apparently caused by no reason at all. If you have a stable pattern of recurring headaches accompanied by nausea at least some of the time, you probably have migraine.

The symptoms accompany the headache including nausea, vomiting, or the feeling that light bothers the eyes (photophobia) or sound bothers the ears (phonophobia). Some people seem prone to migraine headaches, others get tension headaches, sinus headaches or cluster headaches. Once the pain of headache sets in, it is sheer agony. Headaches are diagnosed based on symptoms. No procedure can determine the diagnosis.

If you’re not sure what triggers your headaches, you may want to start keeping a record. People who get headaches are thought to have an inherited abnormality in the regulation of blood vessels. Triggers can be divided into different groups, including emotional triggers, stress, environmental, chemical, food and beverage.

Though it has been seen that some headaches does run in families, it’s not necessary that children of headache patients will also have it. Insufficient sleep, anxiety, problems, and worries give rise to the tension headache. Headaches can also be triggered by allergies and stress. Although many sufferers have a family history of headaches, the exact hereditary nature of this condition is not known. Stress, insomnia, over sleeping, and hunger may also trigger some form of headaches such as migraine.

You may have some triggers that start your headache attack at one time, and then these triggers can change. Cheese (pizza) is also a triggering factor in some people, while in others it only aggravates an already existing condition. You may find it hard to avoid them, but for some people, environmental changes can trigger a migraine. Some even go to say that a migraine maybe triggered by the end of a stressful situation.

Herbs such as Ginkgo and Feverfew assists in lowering the intensity of the pain. If the pain is severe, which it frequently is during a full-blown migraine attack, then you may need medication. Being aware of what brings on your headaches is key to finding drug free relief. Migraine may be, relieved by identifying and avoiding problem foods. Some sufferers respond to salt, lactose in milk and ice cream, cigarette smoke, birth control pills, caffeine and tryptophan, an amino acid found in protein-rich foods. Find out if you have any allergies. Allergies can cause headaches.

Virtually all headache therapies are designed to eliminate, or at least mitigate, pain. Individuals who experience several moderate or severe migraine headaches per month or whose headaches do not respond readily to medications should avoid triggers and consider modifications of their lifestyle. Some people find that by falling asleep, they can actually eliminate the attack. Sometimes a separate visit to your medical practitioner to discuss your headaches specifically may be necessary.

There are a number of alternative headache treatments such as using aromatherapy, acupunture, biofeedback, homeopathy and herbal remedy such as feverfew. Tension headaches may be helped by taking a 5-HTP supplement, or peppermint oil. Individuals with occasional mild migraine headaches that do not interfere with daily activities usually medicate themselves with over-the-counter (OTC, non-prescription) pain relievers (analgesics). There are several natural solutions that can help you fight headaches, but the first thing you need to do is work out what sort of headaches you are actually suffering from.

Crucial to the appropriate treatment of headache is the proper diagnosis of its type, and migraine headache is a particularly common form of recurring headache. There are many factors that contribute to the onset of headache pain and even migraines. Be careful not to overuse any headache medication; they are good friends when you need them, but poor masters! Try putting a cold damp cloth on your forehead or temple (on the side that is painful), or use a frozen bag of peas wrapped in a small towel, as cold compresses can sometimes help with the pain.

Many researchers believe that migraine and tension headache are close relatives, which explains why many headache patients can experience both kinds of headaches, and why similar treatments can help both migraine and tension headache. Tension headaches often start in the middle of the day. Tension headaches may be mild or severe. Some people report that their tension headaches are worse than a migraine headache.
